ICv2 reports that July 2012 comic book sales were robust, up 22% over the same time last year. Graphic novel sales were also strong, too, with a 16% increase from July 2011. Although this summer’s crop of superhero movies may have sparked a few sales, the bump can be attributed, in part, to the release of issue #100 of The Walking Dead.

Cowabunga, dude! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be returning to the small screen this fall with a new animated series; the show, which debuts September 29th, will air on Nickelodeon.

Cartoonist and children’s book illustrator Renee French is the latest high-profile author to pen a tome for TOON Books. Barry’s Best Buddy, which will be released in spring 2013, explores the relationship between a rodent — possibly a shrew or a vole — and a bird.

USA Today reports that the Peanuts gang will be taking a trip to Japan in the forthcoming graphic novel It’s Tokyo, Charlie Brown. Paige Braddock, creative director for Charles Schultz Creative enterprises, explains that the new work remains true to the spirit of the original strips. “Everyone who has worked on the comic books is very respectful to honor Schulz, his stories and his characters,” she explains. “We all realize that we are standing on the shoulders of a giant.”
