A Kid’s Best Manga List of 2009

January 1, 2010 by Lori Henderson   4 comments

Quite a few manga titles for kids came out this year. Most of them were from Viz, though Tokyopop had a few and Udon debuted their own kids line.  Most of the titles broke away from the licensed properties that had dominated kids titles, with video game tie-ins being the biggest hold outs.  It was still a good year for kids manga, and next year is looking up as well with Yen Press and Vertical coming out with more titles that kids will love.

Since there’s no comic list this week, I decided to ask my 10-year-old daughter Krissy to tell me her 5 favorite kids manga that she had read this year, and tell me one thing she likes about each. These are not ranked, but listed in alphabetical order.

I get the same kinds of comments from the students in Krissy’s age group in my school. They keep asking me for more manga for them.

Lori, I meant to tell you earlier that these kind of posts are very helpful. “ChocoMimi” was a title whose appeal escaped me, but your mother-daughter review and follow-up piece her helped me see more value in the book.
