All ages comics and manga for 11/26/08

November 29, 2008 by Lori Henderson   1 comments

With Thanksgiving over, the Christmas season can officially begin.  Not that it’s hit the comics list yet.  It’s the end of the month, so titles are a little sparce, like that pumpkin you had for dessert.  But there are still some good ones waiting, like the dog waiting under your chair for you to drop something.  Bongo Comics has a new Simpson Winter Wingding to get you into the winter mood.  There is also a new Mouse Guard: Winter 1152, and Viz with another Dragon Drive, for the animal loving readers out there.

Picks:

Hyperactive HC – This is another title to come from Worthwhile Books arm of IDW Publishing.  This book is created by Scott Christian Sava, who also created Dreamland Chronicles, among other titles.  It’s about 12 year old Joey Caram, whose metabolism seems to have gone into overdrive!  He can run at 100/mph, clean his room in 4 seconds, and do chores before the commerial break is done.  His parents and doctors don’t know what to do, but corporate head Mr. Itchez, of Itchez and Burnz Pharmaceutical thinks he’d be marketable, and all he has to do is get a hold of Joey’s DNA.  It sounds like a fun action title for boys and girls, and a lot of parents may be able to relate to a kid that just never seems to stop!  (I know I do).

Bruce the Little Blue Spruce HC – Here’s a surprise; an all ages book from Image Comics!  This is also coming through another printing arm, Silverline Books.  All Bruce want is be some family’s Christmas tree.  But who wants a blue Christmas tree?  This title deals with the themes of accepting the differences in ourselves and others, and finding our place.  Even though it has a christmas feel to it, the themes in this title are appropriate all year round.  It was illustrated by Image Comics founder Jim Valentino.  This is a title to read with the kids in front of a fireplace on a cold December night.

Thanks for the kind words on Hyperactive.
I got the books in from IDW last week and they are absolutely, totally, and indubitably COOL!
