Coming Attractions: Graphic Novels at Book Expo 2019

Esther Keller, June 5, 2019 | Graphic Novels, News

NYC Book Expo 2019 has come to a close. And while it ran for 3 days, piggybacked by Book Con, at the Jacob Javitz center in NYC, I was only able to attend 1 day. I would have surely enjoyed another day, and would have probably seen so much more, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and came home with piles of books to read.

    Review: Time Shifters

Esther Keller, February 26, 2018 | Graphic Novels, Reviews

Time travel has always been an intriguing idea. What would happen if we could go back in time and change things? Could we improve our lives? In this entertaining graphic novel, author Chris Grine puts those ideas out there and leaves readers thinking, though they’ll be so entertained that they might not realize it. Time […]

    Review: ‘Swing It, Sunny’

Esther Keller, November 28, 2017 | All Ages, Graphic Novels, Reviews

Sunny Side Up, the story loosely based on the lives of sister-and-brother team of Jennifer and Matthew Holm, wrapped up so well that it never occurred to me there would be a sequel. But lucky for me, there is! Although the story will be better understood by those who have read the first volume, this […]

    Review: Graveyard Shakes

Esther Keller, November 16, 2017 | All Ages, Graphic Novels, Reviews

Released in time for Halloween, Graveyard Shakes was an excellent choice to help get the spook on. But though Halloween is gone for another year, horror is always in high demand in my library! Review: Bone Tribute Edition

Esther Keller, October 15, 2015 | All Ages, Graphic Novels, Reviews

I’ve always been open and honest about being a late comer to the comics world. I’d only read a handful of comics until 10-12 years ago, when I decided to bring comics into my school’s library. I then started to read sporadically, until I joined ALA’s Great Graphic Novels for Teens selection committee. Only then […]

Review: ‘The Baby-Sitters Club: Kristy’s Great Idea’

Esther Keller, October 5, 2015 | Graphic Novels, Reviews

Was it in honor of Scholastic’s 10th anniversary or was it because Raina Telgemeier titles are in such high demand? Is that why Scholastic reissued the Babysitter’s Club in color? Back in May, I spoke to a Scholastic rep at Book Expo and she said that both were considerations. Mostly, she explained, it had to […]

Book Expo America 2015 (Part I)

Esther Keller, June 1, 2015 | Graphic Novels, News

On Thursday, May 28th, I was lucky enough to be released from my regular duties as a middle school librarian so I could hop over to the City and spend a day at Book Expo America. The first thing I noticed when walking into the exhibit hall at BEA was that Star Wars was everywhere. […]
