The Picks:

Mr. Muffins Defender Of The Stars TP – Oni Press releases a middle grade action-packed adventure about an alien invasion that can only be stopped by one being: a corgi named Mr. Muffins! Eleven-year-old Reuben Mahmud takes his pet corgi, Mr. Muffins, to the park, hoping to take a break from all his responsibilities at home. Instead, he sees an alien ship crash landing in front of him, and intergalactic soldier Cassara tells him that Mr. Muffins is the chosen one destined to save the Galaxy from the Hakar Empire. To turn the tide, Mr. Muffins must learn how to tap into his cosmic power, but he will be put to the test when he is separated from Reuben and a formidable giant mech-corgi arrives to conquer the planet. Reuben must rise to the occasion to help his furry best friend and show that he, Cassara, and Mr. Muffins have what it takes to stop this war once and for all. Sci-fi fans and animal lovers alike will love this new title.

Very Bad At Math GN – HarperAlley releases a new middle grade graphic novel from creator Hope Larson. Verity “Very” Nelson can do it all. She’s student body president, debate club whiz, and first chair clarinetist. She seems to be the best at everything…well almost. She just can’t do math. And it’s not like she doesn’t try. Math just doesn’t make sense to her brain. But with her presidency and campaign promises in jeopardy, it had better start making sense soon. Even enrolling in a remedial math class doesn’t help, despite her best efforts. When her teacher discovers she has the learning disability dyscalculia, which causes her to mix up numbers, her grades start to improve, but her attempt to keep her struggles a secret is foiled by a gossipy podcaster. With her perfect image dismantled, Verity must choose whether to remain part of the broken system or fight to fix it. Fans of Raina Telgemeier and Kayla Miller will enjoy this new title.
