Uprooted A Memoir About What Happens When Your Family Moves Back GN – Roaring Brook Press releases a graphic memoir about dealing with the uncertainty of change. Ruth Chan loves her hometown in Toronto. Snacking on ketchup flavored potato chips and hanging out with her best friends for life is the best. But all that changes when her dad gets a new job in Hong Kong and they have to move back. Her mom is excited to be reunited with family, but Ruth, not so much. Her classes are harder, her Cantonese isn’t good enough, and her parents are never around. Nothing feels like home, leaving her feeling lonely and completely uprooted. With the help of her dad, and his stories about how her family relied on their strength, courage, and each other to survive the most difficult times, Ruth learns to put down her own roots and that home is always where her heart is. Fans of New Kid and A First Time for Everything will enjoy this new title.

Shock City GN – Viking Books for Young Readers releases a new graphic novel adventure for middle grade readers. On a dare, shy, anxious Milo rings the doorbell of the forbidden Shock City castle. When it’s answered by the peppy young monster Sunny, he suddenly has a new, self-proclaimed BFF. With the residents, including Milo, moving out of the crumbling Shock City, Sunny refuses to accept it, and convinces Milo to help her reverse the damage done and persuade everyone else to stay. Milo must confront his biggest fears as he helps Sunny save the town and reverse her family’s reputation from her grandfather, the great Darkness Von Shock, who is the cause of everything bad happening in Shock City. Filled with creepy snacks, funny monsters and lots of action, this is a must for any middle-grade library.
