The Picks:
Mystery Science Detectives Volume 1 The Case Of The Forest Fingers GN – Graphic Universe debuts a new series about solving spooky mysteries with science! The Mystery Science Detectives after-school club has taken on some minor mysteries, but the members haven’t had a chance to show what they can really do. That is, until strange fingers are found growing from the ground in the forest outside of school! Some kids think they are zombies rising from the grave, while others think they’re poisonous mushrooms. Either way, everyone’s staying far, far away. Using the power of science, Kihan Shin, Hannah Kang, Terry, and the black-and-white cat mascot Kkami set out to discover what is really going on. Mystery Science Detectives use science concepts and facts about the natural world to explain elementary and middle-school science concepts in an entertaining and engaging way. It’s a perfect addition to any graphic novel collection.
Inscrutable Doctor Baer And The Case Of The Two-Faced Statue GN – Iron Circus Comics releases a graphic novel set in a world of monsters and magic. Dr. Baer likes to sort and catalog supernatural items. He prefers adventurers to bring the object to him rather than going to find them himself. But when novice adventures Taft the Tortoise and Pickles the Pig accidentally enable the theft of Baer’s most powerful artifact by the nefarious chicken sorcerer Gallus Lugubrious, Baer is forced to leave his house to reclaim it. While he is well versed in magic, he (and his new companions) know next to nothing about adventuring and will have to figure it out as they go. Middle grade readers will love this new title, which is filled with fun characters and exciting adventures.
