Makers Club GN – Andrews McMeel releases a new graphic novel about kids who blend art and science to create incredible projects. Featuring two different stories, this title begins with introducing Naida, an artist, and Priya, a coder, who are paired up for a science project. They plan to make a video game that is sure to impress, but they soon learn there is more to teamwork than just having individual skills. In the second story, old friends Aqliah and Yong Qiang reconnect at their new school. They try to pursue their passions in fashion design and engineering respectively but soon find that trying to do everything and please everyone eventually catches up to you. Readers will enjoy the friendship, crafting and creative solutions the characters come up with. Great for fans of Raina Telgemeier’s Drama.

S.C.R.A.M.: Society Of Creatures Real And Magical GN – First Second Books debuts a new middle grade fantasy adventure filled with heart and wit. Rockhurst seems like your average suburban town, with everything you’d expect: happy families, fun shops… and magical creatures?! Friends Jenny, Emiko, and Brian decide they want to learn more about the local cryptids and start the Society of Creatures Real and Magical, a.k.a. S.C.R.A.M. Their first order of business is to meet a troll. As they venture into the unknown, these three friends will learn valuable lessons about friendship, perseverance, and the importance of keeping a fish head in an old boot. It’s a great addition to any middle school collection. [For more on this and other middle-grade fantasy graphic novels, see the May Stellar Panels column—Ed.]
