New Telgemeier / McCloud Title Coming Next Year | News

Two titans of comics, both of whom have changed the way the medium is perceived with their work, are teaming up for a new book. Raina Telgemeier (author of Smile) and Scott McCloud (author of Understanding Comics) are co-creating The Cartoonists Club, coming April 2025 from Scholastic/Graphix.
The book is a combination story and how-to, designed to encourage young cartoonists. McCloud illustrates the art created by the kid characters, while Telgemeier draws the narrative scenes. The two have been collaborating on the script and layouts since 2020! The book is inked by Ray Baehr and colored by Beniam Hollman.

The diverse cast includes someone who needs help turning ideas into a story, one who loves drawing but needs ideas (and is fighting his dad’s outdated stereotypes about comics), a girl who doesn’t think her art is good enough, and a creative kid called Art. Together they form the Cartoonists Club, where they (and the reader) learn about making comics and channeling their creativity and imagination.
The book has an announced 750,000 copy first printing, so great things are expected.
