The Picks:
Detective Sweet Pea Volume 1 The Case Of Golden Bone GN – First Second Books releases a new mystery series for young readers. In her hometown of Parkville, Sweet Pea has it pretty sweet! Since all the animals get along with each other, she is free to make art, hang out with friends, and dig through the trash for tasty treats. When her friend Nargiz introduces her to two new dogs who have moved into town to join the town choir, she is happy to show them the sights and smells of Parkville, especially its most famous attraction, the one-of-a-kind Golden Chew Bone! But when it vanishes, Sweet Pea and her spectacular sense of smell have to step to be the detective Parkville needs to crack the case! With charming characters and a smart case to solve, the start of this new series will be a hit with young readers.
Jupiter Nettle And The Seven Schools Of Magic GN – Viking Books for Young Readers releases a new graphic novel from Sangu Mandanna, author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and Kiki Kallira Breaks a Kingdom. Twelve-year-old Jupiter Nettle has always wanted to attend one of the Seven Schools of Magic, but when she finally gets the call to take the exams, she ends up failing one test after another. She goes home dejected and confused but receives an unexpected visitor that night who gives her another chance. However, learning magic isn’t what she expected. The School of Earth is looked down upon by others, there’s no cool spells, and her teacher, Professor Grim, lives up to his name. Even though she works hard, the doubts in her mind shake her confidence to the brink of giving up. When an age-old enemy of the Seven Schools returns to exact revenge, Jupiter must find the courage and magic that’s been within her all along. Fans of Harry Potter, The Okay Witch, and City of Dragons will enjoy this new title.
