I Heart Skullcrusher #2 | Exclusive Preview
Today we have a preview of I Heart Skull-Crusher #2, the latest issue of the manga-inspired post-apocalyptic YA series from the BOOM! Studios imprint BOOM! Box. The series, by writer Josie Campbell and artist Alessio Zonno, follows 18-year-old Trini, who is determined to make her mark on the sport of Screaming Pain Ball, following in the footsteps of her hero, Skull-Crusher. The first step, as always, is to assemble a team of ragtag misfits, but in this issue, we see a hiccup occur in the form of an attack by mutants.
Campbell’s animation credits include head writer for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and head writer/producer for My Adventures with Superman, and her comics work includes Wonder Woman and The New Champion of Shazam. Zonno has done work on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

In the original announcement of the series, Campbell described it as “everything I love–queer characters, anime influences, action, comedy, broken hearts, broken bones, Post-Apocalypse death matches–wrapped up in one gorgeous package.” The collected edition is slated for release on December 31, 2024, and is rated for grades 10-12.
In addition to today’s preview, we also have a look at the variant covers for this issue by Natacha Bustos, Rian Gonzales, and Simone Di Meo. The issue will go on sale on April 17. Enjoy!
