
2024 ALA Youth Media Awards
TV Shows have the Emmy Awards. Movies have the Oscars. Music has the Grammy Awards. But children and YA books have the ALA Youth Media Awards. Approximately 22 different awards are presented each January at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference. And while all the books deserve mention, I will focus on the graphic novels that garnered attention today.

Mexikid: A Graphic Memoir by Pedro Martin won a Newbery Honor, the Pura Bulpre Award in Youth Illustration, the Children’s Author Award, and an Odyssey Book Award Honor. (Read our review.)

Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature
Children’s Literature Honor for Parachute Kids by Betty C. Tang. Read our Good Comics For Kids Review.
Young Adult Literature Honor for In Limbo Deb by JJ Lee
Sydney Taylor Book Award
Young Adult Honor was awarded to Neal Shusterman’s Courage to Dream. Read our review. (Neal Shusterman also won the Margaret Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement.)
Stonewall Book Award
Children’s award winner is Cross My Heart and Never Lie By Nora Dåsnes Translated by Matt Bagguley. The honor went to Stars in Their Eyes by By Aśka and Jessica Walton.
The ALEX Awards highlighted The Talk by Darrin Bell



El Deafo by Cece Bell won the Odyssey Book Award for its full-cast media production.
