The Picks:

Misfit Mansion GN – Atheneum Books for Young Readers releases a graphic novel about a foster monster girl seeking her forever family. Iris has never felt like she belongs in a mansion filled with horrors like kelpies, gorgons and unicorns. Despite her monstrous appearance, she longs to find a family in the human world, but she and her housemates are trapped in the “foster home for horrors” run by former paranormal investigator Mr. Halloway. When Mathias, a human boy, breaks the house’s sealing spell, Iris and her friends are set free and head to the town of Dead End Springs and their Harvest Festival. As Iris searches for a home, she makes human friends and explores a brand-new world, unaware that Mathias is a paranormal hunter who seeks to capture and destroy horrors, unlike Mr. Halloway. But that isn’t the only danger that lies ahead, as she discovers a dark secret that Mr. Halloway has kept locked in the basement of the house that could threaten to destroy the family she so desperately seeks. This volume reads like a cross between Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and Hilda and the Troll, and middle grade readers will find lots to love in it.

Fuzzy Baseball Volume 5 Baseballoween GN – Papercutz’s next release in the Fuzzy Baseball series is monstrously fun! The baseball season has come to an end for the Fernwood Fuzzies, but the team gets the rare opportunity to plan an extra game. The team they are playing only competes once a year, on Halloween night. Things get spooky when the Graveyard Ghastlies and their coach Count Flappula reveal they have their own frightening style of baseball, including their own brand of bats (the furry, flying kind of course!) The Fuzzies will have to face their fears and put on a brave furry face to play ball! Middle grade readers will enjoy this spooky tale with America’s favorite pastime!
