Unaccompanied: Stories of Brave Teenagers Seeking Asylum | Exclusive Preview
Tracy White’s Unaccompanied, out now from Street Noise Books, features five stories of teenagers traveling on their own to the U.S. to seek asylum from countries in Central and South America. The author conducted a number of interviews with teen refugees, lawyers, caseworkers, and activists in researching this graphic novel, with a goal of understanding why young people would risk their lives to reach the United States. Street Noise has rated the book for grades 10-12.
Below is an exclusive excerpt of one girl’s story of fleeing child abuse and incest.
