The Picks:
Clementine Fox Volume 1 Clementine Fox And The Great Island Adventure GN – Graphix debuts a new graphic novel series for young readers. Clementine Fox is supposed to be on her way to school. But this Professional Amateur Adventurer wants to take a day for adventure and exploration instead! With her friends Nubbins Squirrel and Penelope Rabbit, they head to the beach, and meet Jesse Otter, who is preparing to take his giant Turtle, Annabella, to a mysterious local island. Clementine’s great-aunt Marnie also lives on the island, and visiting her would be more fun than math tests and tutors, so the trio decide to hitch a ride to the island as stowaways. What could go wrong? Young readers will enjoy this new series about a group of young animals setting out on an adventure and learning the true value of friendship, family and the importance of sticking together and working things out.
Lo And Behold GN – Random House Graphic releases a graphic novel about friends, making connections and seeing the wonder all around. Addie has grown up believing life is full of possibilities and wonder, but when her family life gets turned upside down, those things become harder to see. Traveling across the country for her dad’s summer job at a university, the last thing she wants to do is make a friend. Mateo, the boy across the hall, tries to include his projects, but Addie is interested in the virtual reality projects her dad’s students are working on. With the help of a virtual headset, she’s suddenly scaling castle walls, dodging angry kittens and starts to see the world in whole new ways. It gives her an idea that could be bigger than anything she’s imagined before, but first she needs to right some wrongs, before it’s too late. Middle school readers will enjoy this debut graphic novel as it explores themes of grief, healing, and the use of technology in our lives.
