The Picks:
Polar Bear Cafe Collector’s Edition Volume 1 TP – Seven Seas Entertainment collects the first half of this silly, slice of life series. Polar Bear is the pun-loving owner of a serene cafe that is popular with both humans and animals. His regulars include a lovestruck zookeeper with a crush on the cafe’s waitress, a panda who works part time at the zoo and stops by after a hard day of lazing around and eating bamboo, and a penguin who acts as the straight man to Polar Bear’s and Panda’s antics. Readers will enjoy the cafe’s colorful clientele as they flow through the seasons of daily specials, romantic complications and working the (coffee) grind. This comforting and funny manga will appeal to readers of all ages.
Darkwing Duck #1 – Dynamite Entertainment continues their revivals of Disney Afternoon shows with a new Darkwing Duck series. He is the terror that flaps in the night! He is Darkwing Duck, the caped defender of St. Canard. By night he lurks in the shadows, striking fear (and maybe confusion?) in the heart of the criminal underworld with his trusty sidekick Launchpad McQuack. But no one suspects that by day, he is the mild-mannered Drake Mallard, a well-meaning father to his adopted daughter Gosalyn. This hyper-vigilant dark defender must try to navigate his two separate lives successfully. This is the fourth time Darkwing Duck has graced the pages of a comic book, with this series being a whole new series.
