The Picks:

Pearl Of The Sea GN – Catalyst Press releases a graphic novel about a tough teen-aged heroine determined to live life by her own rules. Pearl has alway felt more at home in the sea than around the people in her sleepy South African town. After her mother left, she has spent more time in the ocean, fishing to help her father pay the bills. She gets mixed up with a group of poachers and starts diving near a restricted wreck, where she meets Otto, an ancient sea monster who isn’t all that monstrous. When Otto’s enemies return to finish what they started, it’s up to Pearl to save him. In order to do so, she has to muster the courage to let go of her past and open up to others—including the girl from class she’s got a crush on. With her one-eyed pup sidekick and a whole lot of nerve, Pearl just might succeed and finally admit the truth to her father, and more importantly, to herself. This beautifully illustrated adventure will thrill middle school readers.

Guardians Of Horsa Volume 1 Legend Of The Yearling GN – Little Simon presents a new graphic novel series featuring mystery, magic, and horses. The realm of Horsa is a world of magic, wild horses and danger. Four elemental herds live here, in an uncertain peace. As long as they stay out of each other’s way, everything will be fine. But when the signs of a mysterious prophecy about a yearling with untold magical powers appear, four young horses from each herd must heed the call to action. The elemental enemies must find a way to work together to solve the prophecy, find the yearling, and restore balance to Horsa. Fans of Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly, Wings of Fire, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will enjoy this series.
