Santiago Ramon y Cajal Artist Scientist Troublemaker HC – Margaret Ferguson Books presents the retelling of a true story about the struggles of a child trying to navigate the expectations of adults. Young Santiago wanted to be an artist, but his father insisted he become a doctor, as he didn’t consider art a true profession. Despite being forbidden by his parents to make art, he persisted, making his own brushes and paints to continue honing his craftsmanship. Santiago was eventually sent to medical school, and while there, discovered the wonders of how animal bodies worked. Using the artistic skills he learned as a child, he turned to unlocking the secrets of the brain, leading to his winning the Nobel Prize in medicine and today he is considered the father of modern neuroscience. Santiago’s story proving anything is possible will appeal to readers of all ages.
