The Picks:
Hooky Volume 2 GN – Clarion Books continues the magical adventures of twin witches in a classic struggle of good versus evil. Dani and Dorian Wytte have already been through a lot with their allies, troublemaker Nico, Princess Monica, and golden boy Mark. They have helped release hostages from prison and defended the castle when it was attacked by witches. But as the struggle for power and blood by witches like their parents continue, and non-magical people are increasingly threatened, they don’t know whose side they are on—or if anyone is on their side. With the disappearance of not only their brother Damien, who was crowned King of Witches, but also Monica’s father, the king, and her fiancé, Prince William, Dani and Dorian must set out to find their lost allies. This series, based on the popular webtoon, is perfect for fans of The Okay Witch and the 5 Worlds series.
Garlic And The Witch GN – Quill Tree Books releases the followup to Garlic and the Vampire. Garlic loves spending time with Witch Agnes, Carrot, and her new friend, the Count, who has been a good neighbor to the village of vegetable people, and not the scary vampire they first believed. Agnes has been trying to home-brew a vegetarian blood substitute for Count, but the most important ingredient can only be found at the Magic Market, which is far from the valley. As Garlic prepares for the journey, she is experiencing another change: She appears to be turning human. While Witch Agnes assures her that it’s normal for her garden magic, Garlic isn’t sure she’s ready for such a big change. After all, changes are scary. This series is a good fit for readers who enjoyed Tidesong or Witch Boy.
