The Picks:
Cat’s Cradle Volume 1 The Golden Twine GN – First Second releases the debut volume of a new fantasy adventure series. The story says that centuries ago, a rift opened that let monsters into the world of Galatea. Suri, an orphaned street urchin, loves monsters. She studies their lore, tells stories about them (for a fee) and hopes to one day tame them. But no one takes her seriously. When a mysterious new wagon joins the merchant camp she travels with, Suri must use all her self-confidence, cleverness, and ambition to find out what the very big, very loud, and very monstrous something inside it is. Middle school readers will enjoy this new series filled with magic, monsters and mystery.
Expedition Backyard GN – Random House Graphic ventures out into the world of nature in your backyard. Mole and Vole like to see what they can find in their own backyard. With their nature journal, they get to know every part of their local environment, from pigeons and jumping spiders to swamp milkweed and maple trees. But when they are accidentally moved from the country to the city, they worry everything will be different. As they explore their new home, they discover plants to look at and animals to meet. This volume brings to life the adventure of finding wonder in nature everywhere, as well as providing readers with fun activities to do at home.

The Golden Twine was actually originally published in 2012 by Kids Can Press. I think this version has been updated some, but it’s essentially still the same story. I am really excited that it’s been reissued – I had a lot of kids who loved it back then and were very sad that no sequel ever happened, so I hope the series continues with First Second!

I had no idea it was a reissue. Looking forward to reading it.
Lori Henderson says
I will feature reissues if its been a while since the first release, and especially when they are with a new company. It’s easy for good books to get lost over time. If a publisher is going to bring it back after 10 years, I’m happy to feature it for the new audience.
