The Picks:
Enola Holmes The Graphic Novels Volume 1 TP – Andrews McMeel collects the graphic novel adaptation of Nancy Springer’s bestselling mystery series. On her fourteenth birthday, Enola Holmes wakes up to discover her mother has gone missing. Her older brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft, are determined to send Enola off to boarding school to learn to be a proper lady. But Enola’s mother has prepared her daughter for a life of independence, including her last gifts of a book on the language of flowers and several coded messages. Enola thwarts her brothers’ plans and escapes to London to start a life of her own, using the skills her mother taught her, as well as picking up a few from Sherlock. Displaying a cleverness that impresses even her elder brother, Enola becomes a finder of lost things as she takes on her mysterious cases. This book collects the first three graphic novels: The Case of the Missing Marquess, The Case of the Left-Handed Lady, and The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets. Fans of the novels and Netflix film, as well as mysteries in general will enjoy this volume. (Check out Johanna’s review of The Case of the Missing Marquess.)
Surviving The Wild Rainbow The Koala HC – Henry Holt crafts a series of standalone graphic novels for 6-9-year-olds about animals overcoming the odds in the perilous wilderness. Rainbow the Koala is old enough to go off and live on his own, and his mother says he’s ready, but Rainbow is scared. He struggles to find a tree to call home while the kookaburra bird cackles at him. The scorching heat of the Australian outback takes hold, leaving Rainbow without water. Soon he will have to face his most dangerous test yet: surviving a bushfire. The title includes the true story that inspired the book, animal facts, and steps kids can take to help protect the environment. This series will appeal to fans of Planet Earth and Narwhal and Jelly.
