The Picks:
Amethyst Princess Of Gemworld – DC Comics releases a new volume in the middle grade original graphic novel series. Amaya is a princess of House Amethyst in Gemworld. She is also something of a troublemaker. When a magical prank by her and her brother goes too far, her parents ground her to Earth! She’s meant to only spend a week in the mundane world, where washing dishes by hand will hopefully help her realize her magic is a privilege and that palace servants should be respected. Three years later, Amy has settled into ordinary life. She’s in middle school and doesn’t remember any other home. But when a prince of the realm brings her home and restores her magical destiny, she will have to cope with the changes, as her family has disappeared and a monster is on the loose! This graphic novel introduces a fantastic princess to a new generation.

Sleepover – Razorbill releases a suspenseful story about grief and the friendships that help us overcome it. Matthew Russo and his younger sister Judy take the passing of their nanny hard. Matt’s three best friends plan a night of junk food, prank calls and scary movies to cheer him up. Their plans for the sleepover are almost jeopardized when Matt’s single mother hires a new nanny. Miss Swan seems happy to have the boys over, letting them eat whatever they want and mostly leaving them alone, but Matt doesn’t trust her. He thinks she’s the witch of local legend, who torments children and then eats them. Is he just having trouble dealing with Ruby’s replacement, or will Matt and his friends come face-to-face with a real monster? This graphic novel will appeal to fans of Stranger Things.
