The Picks:

Just Beyond: Monstrosity – BOOM! Studios releases the fourth volume of the first original graphic novel series from R.L. Stine. Monstrosity Studios was the biggest name in horror movies until it closed down years ago. When Ruthie and Erza Dillon’s family buys the old Hollywood studio and starts production back up, it’s like a dream come true. But when strange “accidents” start to happen on set, their dream becomes a nightmare. Things get truly scary as they discover the secret of the studio and that the forgotten horrors are more than just makeup and special effects. They must find a way to survive the real terrors of the haunted movie lot, or they will end up on the cutting room floor! Just in time for Halloween, this newest spine tingling-installment will give fans just the scare they’ve been looking for. Check out our two previews here and here to get the flavor of the book!

Marshmallow and Jordan – First Second introduces readers to a new sport drama series with just a touch of legend. After an accident leaves her paralyzed from the waist down, Jordan Winnarta continues to support her school’s basketball team as team captain and coach. After a chance encounter with an injured baby white elephant, whom she names Marshmallow, Jordan discovers a brand new sport: water polo. As she tries to continue her athletic dreams, she struggles with keeping up her old friendships on the basketball team while dealing with newfound cynics on the water polo team. And then there’s Marshmallow, who seems to be hiding some kind of secret. Rich in multicultural characters and Indonesian culture, the story sweet and the characters endearing.
