The Picks:
Besties, Volume 1: Work It Out – Houghton Mifflin Harcourt releases a spin-off series from the Click graphic novels. Beth and Chandra are stylish best friends on their way to building their fashion empire! The girls are presented with an unexpected business opportunity when they are asked to dogsit at Ms. Langford’s luxurious house while she’s away. But when an accident leaves one of Ms. Langford’s prized possessions in pieces, their business plan—and friendship—is thrown into chaos. Beth and Chanda now have to take on as many odd jobs as they can to afford a replacement. Car washing, book sales, interior decorating—anything to help them patch up their mistake before time runs out. This story highlighting friendship and personal responsibility is a perfect companion to Olive’s existing stories and a great addition to any middle school library.
Carlton Crumple Creature Catcher: Reptoids From Space – Pixel + Ink continues the adventures of a monster hunter and the mad-cap monsters he battles. Milt, Carlton’s older brother, is sick of hearing about his heroics, so he stages an alien invasion using a remote-controlled drone disguised as a spaceship, and Carlton falls for it! Iggy and Poof Poof borrow the ship to stage their own fake alien battle, but a real UFO full of Reptoids spots the showdown and believing the threat is real, abducts the beloved house pets. With her creatures captured, Lulu calls the Creature Capture emergency line. Now, it’s up to Carlton to stage a rescue and save the day! Fans of Lunch Lady and Dogman will eat up this series.
