Pax Samson Volume 1 The Cookout TP – Oni Press introduces a series set in a world where humans, gods, fantasy races known as the Enchanted all live in a modern society similar to our own. Twelve-year-old Pax Samson is a master chef in the kitchen while training with his telekinetic powers to protect his home planet of Soltellus outside it. His first attempt to put his powers to use doesn’t go well when the mad god Odin, long time enemy to the Enchanted people and arch-rival to Grandma Samson, the greatest superhero to live, resurfaces in another attempt to regain power. Pax is tempted to hang up the superhero cape and stay in the kitchen, but the arrival of a legendary savior of the Enchanted people along with a startling discovery about Soltellus’ history leaves him facing his toughest decision yet. This modern fantasy is filled with the kind of action middle school readers crave.
Accursed Vampire GN – Quill Tree Press debuts a graphic novel about a trio of vampire kids who go on a quest and end up finding a sense of adventure and belonging. Dragoslava is a vampire kid who was cursed by a witch centuries ago. Now, they must complete every task the witch gives them, or they will be turned into worms. The witch tells Drago to bring her a spellbook from Baneberry Falls, a sleepy midwest town. They set off for the mysterious small town with their immortal friends Eztli and Quintus. Are the keepers of the spellbook, Sara, a vampire, and Ayesha, a witch, as friendly as they seem? Or are they like everyone else Drago has ever known, and have some hidden agenda? Either way, Drago’s immortal life will never be the same again! This spooky and funny tale will charm readers with its humor and heart.
