ComicsPlus Signs Kodansha, Yen
The digital library subscription service ComicsPlus has just added Kodansha and Yen Press titles to its service, and their timing couldn’t be better!
Manga is having a moment right now. The comics retail site ICv2 reported last week that sales of manga hit an all-time high in 2020, topping the previous peak in 2007 at the height of the “manga boom.” I followed that up with an article on the manga shortage, as the popularity of the format collided with the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the printing, shipping, and trucking industries. With print manga in short supply, digital services such as ComicsPlus can help fill the gap.
The Kodansha selection on ComicsPlus includes some solid titles, such as Attack on Titan (and its many spinoffs), Fairy Tail (ditto), Your Lie in April, Noragami, and the super-cute Chi’s Sweet Home. (Lori reviewed a few of Kodansha’s more light-hearted titles in her Feel-Good Manga post.)

The Yen Press titles are heavy on their homegrown graphic novels, including original titles, such as Svetlana Chmakova’s Berrybrook Middle School series and BonHyung Jeong’s Kyle’s Little Sister, and adaptations such as Maximum Ride and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The manga selections include Kingdom Hearts and several Star Wars series.
ComicsPlus is available through public and school libraries; for more information, check their website.
