The Picks:

Chef Yasmina and the Potato Panic Cover

Chef Yasmina And The Potato Panic GN – First Second cooks up a tasty adventure. Eleven-year-old Yasmina loves to cook. Even though money is tight for her and her single dad as they live in a cramped apartment in a bustling city, she is able to whip up gourmet meals. With her cookbooks and fresh vegetables from the community garden, they eat like kings. But when the garden is bulldozed and replaced by a field of scientifically enhanced potatoes, things get weird. Soon, the whole city, including Yasmina’s dad, is addicted to them. It’s up to her to figure out what the secret ingredient is and find a cure. And she’s got to do it fast! This new graphic novel is filled with action, adventure, and a food madness that middle-grade readers will love.

Magical History Tour Volume 2 The Great Wall of China Cover

Magical History Tour Volume 2 The Great Wall Of China GN – Papercutz takes a tour of the past with their new history series. Annie and Nico, two kids from the present day, travel back in time to Ancient China. There, they witness the construction of the Great Wall of China, one of the most impressive architectural feats in history. These time-traveling tour guides will discover all the ins and outs of the gargantuan structure. Constructed of 16 walls, it was built to bolster the Silk Road and keep intruders out. And if they are lucky, their fact finding journey might lead them to outer space to see the Great Wall from there as well! This series offers another great tool for engaging kids in different historical subjects. Check out our review of the first two volumes, including this one, here.
