The Picks:
Frankie And The Creepy Cute Critters HC – Oni Press show how creepy can still be cute in this new graphic novel. Frankie is a fairy who loves to learn about the natural world around her. She has moved to Mosstown with her mother, and now has even more creepy crawly critters to learn about. When her first day at her new school ends with her being called creepy and scary, Frankie grabs her field guide and begins exploring. She learns about the cute, creepy critters around town, and that scary animals aren’t scary anymore once you get to know them, a lesson she shares with the kids at school. This title combines science facts with an affirming tale of friendship into a story that elementary readers will enjoy.
Hello Neighbor Volume 1 The Secret Of Bosco Bay GN – Just in time for the spooky season, Scholastic releases a graphic novel based on the stealth horror video game. Ever since her older brother disappeared, Jen has been searching for answers. She doesn’t believe he ran away, and thinks that a clue to his fate can be found in the ruins of Bosco Bay, the theme park where he was last seen, and now due to be demolished. Her investigation gets complicated when her cousin Allie comes to live with her family for the summer. Tasked by Jen’s mother to help her come to terms with her brother’s disappearance, Allie instead starts to believe Jen may be right. And the one that might be able to prove it is the reclusive theme park designer Mr. Peterson. Fans of the video game will enjoy this new, suspenseful take on the series.
