Saturday Special: Free Digital Comics

May 16, 2020 by Brigid Alverson   Leave a Comment

One of the side effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is that publishers and creators have made an enormous amount of their work free to read digitally. I rounded up some of the free resources at SLJ a few weeks ago; a few of those have expired, but more have become available, so here are some new comics to check out.

DC Comics is making over 250 issues of Scooby-Doo comics, including one of our favorite series, Scooby-Doo Team-Up, available for free from all digital retailers, including ReadDC.com, Comixology, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and others, until September 7, 2020. This is to help promote the digital release of the latest Scooby-Doo movie, the fully animated SCOOB!

Seven Seas Entertainment has made their original graphic novels available for free on comiXology, Kindle, and other platforms. All the series are listed above, but here are a few favorites (links are to reviews): Amazing Agent Luna is a high-school spy story; Destiny’s Hand is a fun pirate story featuring a badass female hero; and Hollow Fields is a steampunk story about a girl at a school for supervillains.

Toon Books is currently offering free access to Comics: Easy as ABC and Written and Drawn by Henrietta on its website.

And finally, creator Colin Bell has put up several issues of his all-ages comics Dungeon Fun and Pirate Fun, plus a coloring book, on Dropbox for free download.
