The Picks:
Descendants Fright At The Museum TP – IDW Publishing releases the second original graphic novel about the children of Disney Villains. A mysterious magical force is making the artifacts in the Museum of Cultural History come to life, keeping Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos and all their friends from Auradon Prep from hanging out in Evie’s starter castle. Lonnie’s first Swords and Shields tournament is coming up, and they’re excited to watch, but they must first contend with the strange force. Descendants started as a Disney made-for-TV movie but has become a franchise of its own. The manga version made Diamond’s top 50 manga of 2019, so there are readers out there hungry for more, and this volume will no doubt sate that hunger.
Aster And The Accidental Magic GN – Random House Graphic introduces a new series about a girl, her dog, and magic gone wrong. Aster doesn’t expect much excitement when her parents move their whole family to the middle of nowhere. With her parents busy with science, and her brother otherwise occupied, Aster explores their new home alone. She meets a mysterious old woman with a herd of dogs, who gives her a dog of her own. With her new companion Buzz, they wander into the forest and meet a trickster spirit who grants Aster three wishes. Her first wish is to be able to speak to dogs, but when dog becomes the only language she can speak, her troubles are just starting. This action-packed fantasy adventure is sure to appeal to middle school readers.
