The Picks:

Go With The Flow GN – First Second makes some noise with a new graphic novel that follows four girls through a year of high school. Sophomores Abbey, Brit, Christine, and Sasha notice that the boys have brand-new football uniforms and equipment while the girls bathrooms are still shamefully bereft of feminine hygiene products. The four best friends decide to band together to confront the school’s administration about it. They petition, write letters, and start a revolution that may go a little too far, all while dealing with crushes, classes, and one of their own going rogue. But through it all they learn to work together and that some fights are worth all the trouble. Taking on issues of friendship, female empowerment, and women’s health issues, this graphic novel takes the often taboo topic of menstruation and demystifies it. Readers preteen and up will enjoy it.

Noodleheads Find Something Fishy GN – Holiday House releases the new series by the creator of the Fly Guy series, Tedd Arnold. Mac and Mac are two hollow-headed noodles who are incredibly gullible. They decide that since fish live in schools, they must be smart. At least they are smarter than the noodleheads who are outwitted by them. They get some help from their friend Meatball, who shows them how to get a bigger boat, but there’s something fishy about his suggestion. With short, funny chapters, this graphic novel is perfect for young comics fans and reluctant readers. It pulls from traditional world folktales and stories of fools to encourage critical thinking by inviting readers to see through the brothers’ ridiculous schemes.
