The Picks:

Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales Volume 9 Major Impossible HC – Amulet Books tells another hazardous tale from Nathan Hale. This tale follows the adventurous life of John Wesley Powell, who as a young man traveled all over the United States exploring. He fought on the Union side during the Civil War and continued to fight even after losing most of his right arm. Undaunted, Powell then embarked on the Colorado River Exploring Expedition, with ten men in four boats, to float through the Grand Canyon. After three months of losing their boats and supplies, nearly drowning and facing peril on multiple occasions, only Powell and five other explorers came out. This, along with his other adventures would make Powell to be known as one of the most epic explorers in history. Once again, Nathan Hale finds a fascinating person from history and shines a well-deserved light on them with another exciting and educational tale.

Island Of Misfit Toys GN – Scout Comics finds inspiration from a beloved Christmas classic. Two days before Christmas, Charlie-in-the-box is lost at sea when a terrible snow storm arrives on the Island of Misfit toys. King Moonracer quickly puts together a band of Misfit Toys, along with Yukon Cornelius and Bumble, the Abominable Snow Monster, to rescue him. The Misfits embark on their adventure to save their friend and return to the island in time for Santa to arrive, or else be doomed to spend another Christmas without a little boy or girl to love them. This story gives side characters from the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer their own time in the spotlight as well as giving fans more adventures in the Rudolph universe.
