The Picks:

Just Beyond The Scare School GN – BOOM! Studios brings the master of middle-grade horror back for a new generation. Scare School isn’t like any other school. Middle school feels like the worst place imaginable, but Scare School just might actually be the worst. Jess, Josh and Marco have a chance encounter with a Drogg, a deadly creature that is stalking the school halls, and whisks these three unsuspecting students to a horrifying realm beyond the school boiler room. There they meet Leeda and Drake, two students who tried to escape the nightmare realm previously. The kids must all work together to unravel the terrifying mystery and find a way to escape or be trapped there forever! This first of a four volume series is set to give the chills to a new generation of horror-loving kids.

Private Eye Princess And The Emerald Pea GN – Capstone Press puts a far out spin on some classic fairy tales. Detective Princess King is hot on the trail to find a priceless emerald known as the “pea”, which has disappeared from Mrs. Snell’s jewelry collection. As she searches Snell Manor for clues, she discovers it holds many mysteries, from secret passageways to a towering bed of stacked mattresses. Princess must use all her sleuthing skills to solve the crime and prove she’s the best private investigator in town! Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale “The Princess and the Pea” gets a more modern telling with some twists you never saw coming. This volume as well as the others in the Far Out Fairy Tale series belongs in graphic novel collections and middle school libraries everywhere.
