Elfquest Returns With New Series From Dark Horse Comics

Elfquest, one of the longest running independent comics in the US, ended in March 2018. Elfquest: The Final Quest, concluded the story of the series’ protagonist, Cutter Kinseeker, and as far as the fans knew, was to be the last story told by creators Richard and Wendy Pini in the World of Two Moons. An announcement two weeks before San Diego Comic Con changed that.

On the Elfquest group on Facebook, the Pinis hinted at a big announcement coming for Comic Con, and it did come, about two week’s early with Comicbook.com dropping the story that a new series, Elfquest: Stargazer’s Hunt, would be coming out in November of this year.

Stargazer’s Hunt puts Cutter’s best friend and “brother in all but blood, ” Skywise, into the spotlight. He thought he knew everything about Cutter, discovers how mistaken he was. That, combined with a tragic accident involving his daughter Jink, sends Skywise on a quest of his own, from the elves’ ancestral Star Home through uncharted space, and back to the World of Two Moons.

The series will be scripted by Richard and Wendy, with art duties falling to Sonny Strait, who was the colorist on Elfquest: The Final Quest as well as illustrator on two long stories in the early 2000s, In All But Blood, and Wolfshadow.

Catching up on Elfquest’s 40 year history of publishing is remarkably easy. Stories published prior to 2014 are available online at the Elfquest Comic Viewer. If you prefer print, Dark Horse has been releasing the series as The Complete Elfquest, with volume 5 as the last volume to be released.
