The Picks:
Care Bears Unlock The Magic #1 – IDW Publishing picks up another 80s classic series. Silver Lining is a mystical realm that is also the home of the Care Bears. They protect the realm from negative influences while their pals the Whiffles, plant and sow the seeds of caring that help Care-a-lot grow. But the mischievous Bluster, and Robbie, part of the Bad Crowd, want to see their home of Blusterland grow instead. When there is a problem with the Whiffles at the Glass Glaciers, Grumpy, Cheer, Funshine, Share and Good Luck head over to investigate. This series is based on the animated series by the same name, and continues the Care Bear adventures in much the same way as the series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. With an irreverent sense of humor and upbeat tone, this new series is sure to be a fun time.
Emiline Knight In Training HC – Oni Press releases a dyslexia-friendly graphic novel. Emiline is training to be a knight, and there are many skills she needs to know. They include sword fighting, unicorn riding, & PB&J eating, just to name a few. While she is very good at these, there is one skill she has a hard time with, reading. When a dangerous situation that can only be fixed by Emiline reading some magic words arises, she discovers that with practice, curiosity, and help from her friends, she can improve at reading and save the day! Dyslexia can be a difficult and disheartening learning disability to deal with, but stories like Emiline’s can help kids see it can be overcome. This title is a great addition to any graphic novel collection.
