This Was Our Pact GN – First Second releases a new magical-realist adventure story. Every year, on the night of the Autumn Equinox Festival, the town gathers to float paper lanterns down the river, where, legend has it, they turn into stars after drifting out of sight. This year, Ben and his classmates are determined to find out where the lanterns really go. They make a pact with two simple rules: don’t look back and don’t turn for home. They start out following the river on their bikes, determined to take as long as it takes to learn the truth. But as the others drop out, breaking the pact, it is left to Ben, and Nathaniel, the one boy who just doesn’t seem to fit in, to complete the pact, and follow the winding road, traveling farther than anyone has ever gone. Taking inspiration from stories such as Stand By Me and My Neighbor Totoro, creator Ryan Andrews crafts a story filled with magic, wonder, and unexpected friendship. It’s the perfect addition to middle school graphic novel collections.
My Little Pony Spirit Of The Forest #1 – IDW Publishing gives the Cutie Mark Crusaders a new mystery to solve. Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle take a trip into the woods, only to find the forest filled with trash. In order to find out what could cause such a mess, the fillies put on their sleuthing caps and dive into solving the mystery. But, as with most things in Ponyville, not everything is as it seems. This three issue mini-series brings the Cutie Mark Crusaders back at their mystery-solving best. My Little Pony and mystery fans will enjoy this new adventure.
