The Picks:

Seafoam A Friend For Madison #1 – Action Lab Comics goes to the beach for their new series. Madison is a spunky 9-year-old who, after helping a beached narwhal, is granted passage to a beach full of mystical and nautical themed creatures. Also living on the beach is a stand-offish boy Madison calls Blue, who grudgingly goes on adventures with her, while hiding a few secrets of his own. In this first adventure, the kids encounter the Hypnoctopus, a vulgaris with the ability to control minds, and must work together to defeat it. This series emphasizes the importance of friendship and teamwork, with quirky art and characters that readers will love.

Glitch Volume 1 GN – Graphix explores a new virtual world in this series from the creator of Kim Reaper. When Izzy receives the new game Dungeon City, she can’t wait to try it, even though she promised her best friend Eric she would wait for their video game sleepover so they could play it together. But she gets pulled into the game, and meets Rae, a robot who tells her she is destined to save their digital world from the Big Boss, a great evil hidden in the game’s code. Izzy must now try to fulfill her destiny while trying to balance dealing with her real life: her family (including her mom’s annoying cat), and Eric, who’s upset with her since she’s been keeping secrets and bailing on their plans. Can Izzy save Dungeon City and her friendship with Eric? Filled with plenty of humor and adventure, middle grade readers will love this new series.
