The Picks:
Sabrina The Teenage Witch #1 – Archie Comics gives Sabrina the Teenage Witch the soft-reboot treatment. Sabrina, a teen witch with burgeoning powers, moves to Greendale to live with her aunts Hilda and Zelda, who are also witches. Her struggles to balance her high school life and supernatural abilities are further complicated by her dealing with being the new girl in town. But that’s no easy task when she finds two intriguing love interests, an instant rivalry, and a couple of misfits that could become BFFs. Top it all off with crazy supernatural events threatening the high school, and maybe even the world, and you have the latest incarnation of everyone’s favorite teenage witch. While Sabrina has already made her appearance in the mainline Archie series, she gets the full spotlight here. Fans of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Archie will not want to miss it.
Marvel Rising #1 – Marvel Comics brings Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl back to team up in a new series. Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, goes on a campus tour of Empire State University with fellow heroes Spider-Man and Inferno, led by her other friend and fellow hero, Doreen Green, Squirrel Girl. Things don’t go as planned as their home turf of New Jersey is invaded by a swarm of knights in shining suits, driving cars armed with javelins. They’re going to need lots of help for this one. Fortunately, they know just who to call. Despite having the same name as the short comic series released last year, this is a new series with all the characters facing off against a new villain. It’s another great addition to middle school graphic novel shelves.
