The Picks:
Monica Adventures Volume 1 Who Can Afford The Price Of Friendship Today TP – Papercutz introduces an international bestselling series to American tweens. Friends Monica, Maggie, Smudge and J-Five are trying to catch a new movie together, especially Monica and J-Five. Their childhood rivalry is leveling up, especially after their beach vacation over the summer went so well. At least until Tony crashed their party. To get this new date in motion means scraping up some money, which means odd jobs for the tweens. Monica tries dog walking, Maggy cat sitting, while the boys try to sell their old comics. Getting a romantic moment at the cinema isn’t as easy as it sounds! The character Monica has been the children’s ambassador for UNICEF and Culture and Tourism for Brazil, so it’s about time she came to America.
Gamayun Tales Volume 2 The Water Spirit GN – Nobrow continues their series of tales from Russian folklore. After his adventure with the King of Birds, the merchant has returned home with his great reward. His curiosity gets the best of him and he opens the new mysterious golden chest, unwittingly condemning his newborn son to a life under the sea. But with friends showing up in even the most unlikely of places, the boy may not have to face his future alone. Russian folklore is a rarely-explored part of mythology that will fascinate tween readers, especially those looking for something more than Greek or Norse mythology.
