The Picks:
Avatar The Last Airbender Imbalance Part One TP – Dark Horse continues the story of Avatar the Last Airbender with a new creative team. Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph return to Earthen Fire Industries, the factory owned by Toph’s father. Even though the once small town is booming, a strange mood hangs over its residents. Joining a business council meeting, the reason becomes clear to Aang: a conflict between the benders and non-benders is threatening to turn violent. This story is written by Faith Erin Hicks and drawn by Peter Wartman, and is the first one created by a team other than Gene Leun Yang and Gurihiru. It is created in collaboration with the Last Airbender creators, and continues the adventures of Team Avatar, as it picks up after the end of their last adventure, North and South. Fans of Avatar and Faith Erin Hicks’ series The Nameless City will want to pick this one up.
Star Wars Adventures #16 – IDW Publishing delves into the newest addition to the Star Wars universe with this issue. Kaz is a spy for the fledgling Resistance. He and BB8 go to the planet Castilon, where the “All Aces Battle Royale,” a big space race, is about to take place. He spots a known informant for the First Order, who is planning to send a huge cache of data. Kaz will have to join the race in order to stop the informant’s transmission. Star Wars Resistance is the new animated series airing on the Disney Channel that tells the adventures of the Resistance before the events in The Force Awakens. This story is written by writers for the show, making it feel like an episode of the series in paper form. It’s the perfect gift for fans of the new show.
