The Picks:
Tiger Vs Nightmare Volume 1 GN – First Second introduces a new “dream” team. Tiger is a lucky kid. She has nothing but good dreams every night, and it’s all thanks to her friend, the monster living under her bed. After they play board games and Tiger goes to sleep, Monster scares away her nightmares. But there’s only so much one monster can do alone. Waiting in the darkness is a nightmare so big and mean, that Monster can’t stop it alone. Tiger will have to team up with her best friend and muster all of her bravery to chase away this nightmare. Tiger Vs Nightmare shows kids the effects of fear, and more importantly, that it can be overcome.
Yotsuba&! Volume 14 GN – Yen Press brings back the irrepressible girl with the green pig tails. Yotsuba’s adventures continue as she makes bead necklaces with her father, becomes obsessed with princesses, and learns to do yoga. Then she travels to Tokyo with her father where she navigates a train ticket barrier, and visits Yoyogi amusement park where she is nearly abducted by “aliens.” It’s been two years since fans were delighted with Yotsuba’s hilarious and heartwarming tales. This long-awaited volume is long overdue.
