The Picks:
Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales Volume 7 Raid Of No Return – Amulet Books brings back Nathan Hale with a Dangerous Tale from World War II. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States requested volunteers for a dangerous secret assignment; to launch Army bombers from an aircraft carrier and retaliate by striking targets in Tokyo. After the bombing, some pilots crashed, some were captured, and many ended up in mainland China, where they were carried to safety by Chinese villagers, despite being hunted by the Japanese forces. Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales does a great job of illuminating historical events in an entertaining and sometimes sobering way. It’s a great addition to library shelves.
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #26 – Marvel Comics gives Squirrel Girl and her friends in the Marvel Universe their own special standalone issue! Squirrel Girl, though her own powers of persuasion, has convinced her friends to make their own comics. Howard the Duck, Loki, Kraven the Hunter, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and even Squirrel Girl’s sidekick, Tippy, all contribute stories to this first-of-its-kind issue. No other comic would give you “Galactus Gags” by the planet eater himself! Only in the pages of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl could something so meta be done and work so well. Just reading the titles of the stories inside will put a smile on your face.
