The Picks:

PashminaPashmina GN – First Second takes readers on a journey as a young girl tries to find the answers to her past. Priyanka Das wants to know about her mother’s previous life in India; who her father is and why her mother left him behind, but Pri’s mom avoids her questions-the topic of India is permanently closed. When Pri finds a mysterious pashmina hidden in a forgotten suitcase, she wraps herself in it and finds herself transported to an India more vivid and colorful than any guidebook or Bollywood film. Questioning the reality the pashmina is showing her, Pri goes in search of the truth, traveling farther than she’s ever dared to find the family she never knew. Heartwarming and illuminating, Pashmina gives readers insight into the hardship, but ultimately rewarding, self-discovery that comes fom juggling two cultures.

DuckTales 1DuckTales #1 – IDW Publishing puts the “Woo-oo!” back in comics. Follow Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, as visit a top-secret lab filled with crazy inventions meant to make life easier, but just might make them shorter, instead, in “The Great Experiment of the Washing Machine.” Then join them in a lighthouse in the desert where Donald has become the keeper, as well as having to keep his nephews under control in “The Chilling Secret of the Lighthouse!” This new comic series has the look as the rebooted cartoon series, but the feel of a prequel so far, as the stories feature Donald and the Nephews on their own adventures, before joining Uncle Scrooge in Duckburg. Fans old and new will still want to jump in on the adventure.
