The Picks:
Suee And The Shadow GN – Amulet Books brings the self-published digital book to print. Sunee, a loner by choice, transfers to the dull and ordinary Outskirts Elementary. She doesn’t expect to hear a strange voice speak to her from the darkness of the school’s exhibit room, she doesn’t expect to see her shadow come to life, and least of all, she doesn’t expect to make friends. But as her classmates one by one turn into zombie-like, hollow-eyed Zeroes, Suee and her friends Hyunwoo and Haeun start investigating why it’s happening. As her shadow gains more power, Suee must confront the stunning secret it has been hiding under her own two feet-something very dark and sinister that could put her and her newfound friends at risk. With Halloween just around the corner, this is a great book to get into the spooky holiday mood.
Swing It Sunny GN – Graphix releases the sequel to the bestselling Sunny Side Up. Sunny Lewin is back from Florida and entering the strange and unfriendly hallways of middle school. Life at home isn’t much better, as her older brother Dale is sent off to boarding school, but she’s determined not to let any of it get her down. She has her best friend, and a mysterious new neighbor to help her as she plans for Halloween, listens to records, watches the new season of TV shows, and of course, reads more comics! Sunny Side Up was a fun and heartfelt look at the changes that can happen in life, and this new volume, as it moves into autumn, looks to be more of the same, which can only be a good thing.
