The Picks:
Yo-Kai Watch #1 – IDW Publishing does their version of yokai in this original series based on the cartoon and manga series from Japan. Yo-kai Watch usually follows the adventures of Nate and his yokai Whisper as they battle against ill-intentioned yokai causing trouble in the hometown. This first issue, however, goes back in time to follow the adventure of Shogunyan, an ancestor to present day yokai Jinbanyan. He is the silent guardian of Princess May, the daughter of the Daimyo, and must protect her from trouble-causing yokai in ancient Japan. Fans of the series will love the new stories and settings while new readers can use this as a jumping-on point.
Something’s Fishy HC – Toon Books releases a new book in the Giggle and Learn series. There are lots of different fish in the world. Fish that breathe air, fish that fly, but the most wonderful fish of all could be in your home right now. The goldfish is a common pet now, but at one time, they were very rare. Kevin McCloskey, by mixing science, art, and comedy, reveals the true story about the humble fish. Emergent readers will enjoy learning about goldfish, not just their history, but also their care.
