The Picks:
Animal Crackers Circus Mayhem HC (Prequel) – First Second goes wild with a new graphic novel from Scott Christian Sava. Owen is determined to get to the truth of the animals at Buffalo Bob’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Animal Circus, where giraffes jump rope, lions tango, and elephants throw knives. But when he visits, he finds his uncle and all the animals gone. Believing it to be the work of Buffalo Bob’s sideshow rival Contorto, Owen investigates, and he stumbles on the one thing that can help him save the day: a box of animal crackers that allow him to change in different circus animals. But it will take more than a few carnival tricks to defeat Contorto and his pack of goons. This volume is the prequel to the graphic novel Animal Crackers, also out this week, and it’s soon to be an animated feature film. Sava already has an established track record with kids’ titles, so both of these titles are sure to please.
Dragonfly And The Global Guardians #1 – Graphic India introduces a new all-girl superhero team to their line. Earth’s superheroes are gone, after sacrificing themselves in a desperate attempt to destroy the invading alien forces of the Destructoids. Taking up their mantle are the children Earth’s greatest heroes left behind: Teja Patel, Wen Ling Wu, Olivia Omega, Elena Gomez, and Romy “Romper Stomper.” These five girls team up to find out what happened to their parents while having to combat a new threat that puts the Earth in peril once again. With fun art and a global cast and theme, this is a good title to pick up to re-energize both the heart and mind.
