This Week’s Comics: Presidential Ghosts

As the days grow longer and the air gets nippier, this week’s new releases bring the comfort of fresh comics to warm the soul. DC Comics continues their critical hit Gotham Academy with Second Semester #1 starting a new arc. Marvel Comics doubles the Guardian goodness with Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy #12 and Rocket Raccoon and Groot #9, while Vertical Comics releases the fourth volume of their surreal slice of life series about the young people of Tokisadame-city, Nichijou.

Adventure Time Volume 8 President Bubblegum GN – BOOM! Studios brings the current election shenanigans to the Land of Ooo in this original graphic novel. The King of Ooo, looking to get revenge on Princess Bubblegum, discovers an ancient document: the long-lost ConstitOootion. The Candy Law Professor verifies it to be authentic, and an election is scheduled to elect Ooo’s first President in one week. Princess Bubblegum, in order to ensure her spot on the throne, will have to throw her hat in the ring and race against her enemies—and frenemies—to come out on top. Finally have some fun this election cycle with the Adventure Time gang.

Raina Telgemeier Ghosts – Scholastic releases Raina Telgemeier’s newest title just in time for harvest festivities. Catrina and her family leave their home in sunny Southern California for cooler Northern California to help her younger sister Maya, who is sick from cystic fibrosis. They move to the coastal town of Bahia de la Luna and find the town has more to offer than the cool, salty air blowing in from the sea. There are ghosts all about town. Maya is determined to meet one, but Cat is less enthused. As autumn and Dia de Los Muertos approaches, Cat must figure out how to put aside her fears for her sister’s sake—and her own. Telgemeier crafts another great story filled with humor and heart, and shows how strong the bonds between sisters can be.
