This Week’s Comics: Prehistoric Edition

September 2, 2016 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

So much good stuff is coming out this week, it’s hard to know where to start—or stop! DC Comics releases the first annual for Gotham Academy, in which a case threatens to break up the detective club. First Second has the second volume of Secret Coders, titled Paths and Portals, a great introduction to programming. IDW starts a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Universe, which takes the turtles around the IDW universe, and Zenescope Entertainment releases Just Princesses, a graphic novel about a princess who must save the adults of her kingdom from a magic spell gone wrong with the help of her friends.

The Picks:

Monty the Dinosaur 1 Monty The Dinosaur #1 – Action Lab Entertainment releases a new series that features an animal favored by all ages, the dinosaur! Monty, the last living dinosaur, has been living in the shadows for millions of years, but now he’s lonely. He tries to make friends, but nobody wants to play with a terrifying T-Rex. Then he meets Sophie, a ten-year-old girl who likes people for who they are. They become the best but unlikeliest of friends. Monty the Dinosaur’s cute art enhances its silly but sweet story of finding friendship where you least expect it.

Lucy & Andy NeanderthalLucy And Andy Neanderthal Volume 1 HC – Crown Books releases a new title from the creator of Jedi Academy, Jeffrey Brown. Paleo siblings Lucy and her goofball brother Andy are two young cave kids from 40,000 years ago. They don’t have the same problems as kids today, as they take on a wandering baby sibling, bossy teens, cave paintings, and a mammoth hunt. But when a group of humans shows up, almost anything can happen. Using a comical touch to enliven scientific and historical content, Brown creates a series that is both entertaining and educational. This volume also includes a special paleontologist section to help dispel common myths about Neanderthals, making it a big plus in my book.
