Harvey Award Nominees Announced

July 7, 2016 by Brigid Alverson   Leave a Comment

Harvey Awards LogoThe nominations for the Harvey Awards, which are nominated and voted on by comics professionals, have been announced, and a number of works for younger readers have made the cut. Here are the nominations for works that are good choices for readers 16 and under. (Giant Days, which is nominated in the best graphic novels for younger readers category, is really an older-teen book, but since it’s there, I have included its other nominations as well.) It’s interesting to note that, in keeping with the trend of increased quality and quantity of graphic novels for children and teens, that a number of works were nominated in general-interest categories such as “Best Writer” and “Best Letterer.”

Best Writer: Mark Waid for Archie #1 and G. Willow Wilson for Ms. Marvel

Best Continuing or Limited Series: Giant Days and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

Best Graphic Album Original: Captive of Friendly Cove and March: Book Two

Best Anthology: Peanuts: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz

Best Biographical, Historical, or Journalistic Presentation: The Art of Mouse Guard: 2005-2015, The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing Comics, March: Book Two, and Peanuts: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz

Special Award for Excellence in Presentation: Peanuts: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz

Best Original Graphic Publication for Younger Readers: Giant Days, Lumberjanes, The Only Living Boy, Over the Garden Wall, and Space Dumplins

Most Promising New Talent: Lissa Treiman, Giant Days
