The Picks:
Goldie Vance #1 – BOOM! Studios introduces a new girl to the detective mystery genre. Marigold “Goldie” Vance is a 16-year-old with an insatiable curiosity and dreams of one day becoming the in-house detective at the Florida resort where she lives with her dad, who manages the place. She gets the chance to utilize all her smarts, skills, and connections with the hotel staff and townsfolk when the current hotel detective, Charles, runs into a case he can’t crack alone. Running in the vein of Nancy Drew and Veronica Mars, Goldie Vance is the new gal sleuth on the block with this exciting “whodunnit” adventure.
Nameless City Volume 1 – Creator Faith Erin Hicks returns with a new fantasy series. The Nameless City has been invaded and renamed so many times that its original name has been lost to even the natives, who consider the invaders to be outsiders. Kaidu is a Dao, the latest occupying nation of the Nameless City. Rat is a native, and at first she hates Kai and everything he stands for. But Kai’s determination and love of his new home is enough to win Rat over and they become friends—just in time to learn of a plot against the city. Hicks is the creator of The Adventures of Superhero Girl, Friends with Boys, and Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong, and you can be sure this series will be filled with the same fun and excitement.
